Panther is released, the new decade starts now!

This is an exciting time.  Product launches do not happen every day, so we should all take time to learn more about what Informix 11.7 (code named Panther) brings to the table.  For those of you who will be at the IOD Global Conference in less then two weeks, you will have the chance to join in on the celebration.   Today the official press release went out on the wire.  The actual announcement occurred yesterday.  I have provided below some high level bullet points on what is new and exciting with V11.7 .  

Highlights of Informix 11.7
·        Zero down time for maintenance and upgrades – made easy!  Keep data available even during planned outages, without the need for temporary hardware, or cloning of databases or applications. You can also utilize heterogeneous hardware and operating systems within the grid
·        Analytics enhancements: Informix 11.7 significantly enhances the ability to handle warehousing workloads, with analytical queries running up to 50% faster. Higher performance means fewer servers – and less space, power, and cooling resources.
·        Even less administration: New autonomic capabilities in Informix 11.7 include automated storage and memory management, a new deployment utility and automated install capable of mass deployment across multiple servers, as well as an automated task scheduler.
·        Enhanced Developer Productivity: Support for Optim Development Studio and IBM Mashup Center will enhance developer productivity. Additionally, Informix 11.7 has built-in support for special data types, such as Time Series, Spatial, and MQ Series, allowing for a new class of applications.
·        Cloud Computing and Virtualization: The Informix Flexible Grid makes Informix a perfect choice for virtualization and cloud computing. Informix 11.7 allows backup and restore of data that is stored in the cloud. This enables scalable storage that can be accessed from the web.
